Ray Thomson

Ray has more than 25yrs in the construction industry - with the last 6 years being within the regulatory and compliance environment. Ray joined NZBTC in mid-2020 after nearly 5 years with Council. In addition to online processing with various councils throughout New Zealand, Ray provides NZBTC with team support, supervision, and mentoring.

Having built a sound knowledge within the design industry, Ray has worked in an Architects practice over a span of 15 years with projects from new residential/alterations to commercial projects, seismic upgrades,  and school projects including Ministry of Education 5YA/10yr Property Planning for various schools in Marlborough.  This has given Ray a broad approach to the various aspects of construction and compliance needed within the Building Act and the support for delivery of integrated building consent functions and advice to the various consent solution teams within Councils.

Ray has completed BCA Audits as part of Reg 17 (2) (h) under MBIE BCA Accreditation for previous employment within Council and re-instated a bi-monthly Building Newsletter out to contractors & customers reflecting on local building industry trends, compliance, and updates within the construction/design industry.  

Ray holds a competency in processing for both Residential R3 and Commercial C2 buildings, and continues on building up his knowledge base.
